Come and join members of Charlotte Mary Yonge (CMY) Fellowship and the Hampshire Field Club and Archaeological Society as we celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of one of Hampshire’s most influential authors, with talks, walks and music. In the morning, we visit Otterbourne where CMY was born and spent her whole life, and in the afternoon the majestic Hursley Park, courtesy of IBM, where CMY had close connections with the Heathcote family and Hursley village. At Otterbourne there will be musical input from “The Madding Crowd” and at both locations short presentations on topics of relevance to CMY, plus the opportunity to undertake CMY trails (short self-guided walks). The latter are included in a specially prepared commemorative booklet and produced with much appreciated financial assistance from the Hampshire Archives Trust. We hope that the day will be a fitting tribute to one of Hampshire’s unsung ‘celebrities’. The cost for attending for members of HFC, CMY and HAT is £14 and for others it is £17 (please contact Roger Ottewill, details below). This includes the above-mentioned booklet, morning coffee, afternoon tea and the performance by “The Madding Crowd”. An information sheet giving further details of the locations and programme will be provided for those attending.
From early March bookings can be made EITHER by visiting https://www.hantsfieldclub.org. uk/sections/localhist-yonge-day.html and using the TicketSource facility OR by contacting Roger Ottewill of the Hampshire Field Club, email rogerottewill@btinternet.com for details as to how to pay by Bank Transfer.
