Grant for publication about Fordingbridge workhouse

Fordingbridge Historical Society was awarded £500 to support its publication of ‘A place of last resort; the history of the Fordingbridge Workhouse’. The book will look at the workhouse’s role in the history of the town and surrounding district from the C17th to the present day.

FHS aims to raise awareness within the local community and beyond of the significance of the Workhouse to Fordingbridge life and how the welfare of the poor nationally was actually a very local issue. There is a particular focus on the lives and experiences of those for whom living in the Workhouse was the last resort.

It looks to publish before Christmas 2022
