This webinar explores how David Livermore, HAT’s Chair, came to write the History of Houghton and Bossington. He had started researching and writing the village history but, when it became a key project for the Millennium celebration, the timing became critical and he and others formed a small team to complete the work on time. Three of them undertook the research and writing splitting the work by period – David undertook the ancient and medieval period and the churches, and his colleagues covered the Tudor and Jacobean periods and finally the 19th century to the year 2000. The book proved a great success – the entire village turned out for their presentation and they quickly sold out of copies. David will outline the process that went into writing this local history publication, and offers a starting point for those wishing to do the same.

David read Classics, Philosophy and Archaeology at university and joined IBM, where he was a director for many years before leaving to be Managing Director of RAC Motoring Services. He later served as the chairman of a Health Trust, the RNID, AbilityNet, the Winchester Science Centre, the Newbury Spring Festival and now the Hampshire Archives Trust. He has always had an interest in History, having been on multiple archaeological digs as a schoolboy, and was co-author of his Village History for the Millennium.
